Brenton Bennett, President
Bachelor of arts degree in political science, California State College Northridge. His experience includes computer science positions for Walt Disney Productions and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. His technical engineering assignments were on unmanned space exploration programs, including the Viking mission to Mars, Voyager
(Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune), Galileo mission to Jupiter, and the Cassini mission which is currently orbiting Saturn. He is the recipient of several NASA Achievement awards. As a public speaker, he represented JPL at schools and various service and professional organizations.
David Borris
Dean of Business, Technology and Health, Dixie State College of Utah. Dr. Borris has a Ph.D. in chemistry and served as a U.S. Public Health Research Fellow at the University of Illinois, Professor of Chemistry and Director of Forensic Science at the University of Mississippi.
David was the Executive Director of the Florida Insitute of Phosphate Research, where he developed international patents and was reasponsible for conducting the State-wide Radon Survey for the State of Florida. He has served a Dean of Science, Dean of Business and Dean of Health Sciences at colleges in Florida and Utah. Dean Borris is familiar with the granting process and has successfuly obtained grants from various national and state agencies and private foundations. He obtained the first digital planetarium projector in an 11 state area of the Southeastern U.S.
Ryan Christensen
Ryan has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah. As a member of the United States Navy, he served as a weapons systems operator on jet aircraft based on aircraft carriers. He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. Currently he is pursuing various real estate development opportunities, and performing in the role of fund raising for several humanitarian organizations. Ryan is intensely interested in both aircraft and spacecraft.
Joe Christopher, Vice President
Joe has been in the automobile industry for over 30 years, from Service Manager to Executive Manager. He has been a Councilman in Weber County, and Chairman of the Weber County Solid Waste Board. He has served as Chairman of the Washington County Economic Development Council, and the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce. Former Chairman of the Foundation For Students of Washington County, he has also been Chairman of the American Cancer Society Gala, an active member of the Rotary Club, and Citizens For Better Roads, and a charter member of Leadership Dixie. Joe was recently honored as Utah State Citizen of the Year by the Utah State Association of Elks because of his outstanding record of community service.
Reid Ivins, Treasurer
Bachelor of arts degree in public management and social and political science from George Washington University. Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University, with emphasis in aviation law. U.S. Air Force positions including Unified Command and Joint Chiefs of Staff in Korea and Vietnam. Private law practice, Legal Counsel and Chief of Staff for congressman Howard C. Nielson, and Legislative Counsel for Senator Jake Garn. Reid has also been a board member of Crisis Line, General Chairman of America's Freedom Festival in Provo, Utah, and President of the Exchange Club. He is a member of several law associations, including the United States Supreme Court Bar.
Brigham J. Johnson
President, Southwestern Utah Region, Wells Fargo Bank. In his present position, Lee manages more than 70 Wells Fargo branches.
Mike Kelly
Currently a real estate broker in St. George, Utah. He has an associate of arts degree in Broadcasting and Communications. For over 30 years he was in the broadcasting industry as an on-the-air personality in markets from Cleveland to Los Angeles. He has also been the national sales manager for Bonneville Communications, Audio Tape Duplication Division, DMI Promark, and other companies. He is aseptic certified and has worked in the medical field instructing doctors in surgical techniques. He is the Voice and Production Manager for ScienceQuest, the Foundation's popular radio program on science.
Phil Moore
Known by many in Southern Utah for his work as a professional musician and entertainer, Phil is also a science instructor at Hurricane High School. He received a bachelor of science degree and teaching credential in the physical sciences, along with a separate degree in geology, from Southern Utah University. He is a member of the Dixie Geological Society, and was founding president of the Southern Utah Astronomical Society. Phil enjoys geology field trips, and collecting rocks, minerals, and fossils. As president of the astronomical society, he organizes star parties for the general public
and special youth groups. He has been active in Boy Scouts of America for many years, and is currently a councilor for the astronomy merit badge program.
Bruce Shaheen, Secretary
A science teacher at Snow Canyon High School, St. George Utah, Bruce is a graduate of Southern Utah University. He has bachelor's degrees in zoology and chemistry, and a master's degree in Secondary Education. An extremely popular instructor at the high school, he has taught physics, chemistry, earth science, and astronomy & space exploration. He is also faculty representative for the Astronomy Club at Snow Canyon High, and an assistant coach for several high school sports programs.
