Jeff Bradybaugh
Currently, Chief of Resource Management and Research Division, Zion National Park. Jeff has degrees in Wildlife, Fisheries and Range Sciences from South Dakota State University and New Mexico State University. He has previous experience in resource management at Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Mammoth Cave National Park. He is a member of the following professional organizations: The Wildlife Society, Society for Range Management, Ecological Society of America, George Wright Society, Utah Native Plant Society, and the Utah Society for Environmental Education. He is providing valuable suggestions for Science Center physical and biological research and education programs.

John P. Broberg
Administrator of Tuacahn High School For The Performing Arts, a State Charter School, in Ivins, Utah. John received his Bachelors Degree in English and History, and a Masters of Education in Administration and Counseling from Brigham Young University. He earned a Doctorate of Education from Oklahoma State University. He has served as Principal and Administrator, as well as Superintendent, in Oklahoma, Arizona, and Utah school systems. He was also a counselor for several years in the Alpine School District in Utah. In 1995, he was honored as Administrator of the Year in Oklahoma. His hobbies include astronomy, gardening, traveling, hiking, and Utah history.

Stephen Dansie
A graduate of Utah State University, Stephen has a degree in Industrial Technology, with emphasis in electronics and computer technology. Currently, Engineer Associate in the Electro-Optical Systems Engineering and Calibration Directorate at the Space Dynamics Laboratory at Utah State University. He has experience on sounding rocket programs, orbiting infra-red telescopes, space simulation chambers, vacuum systems, cryogenics, infra-red sensor calibration, and lasers. Stephen has contributed years of community service in teaching school children about science, including liquid nitrogen demonstrations and telescope optics. He is also an active supporter of the Young Astronauts Program and numerous other youth groups.

E. J. “Jake” Garn
Former United States Senator from Utah (1975-1993) and astronaut, Jake has a distinguished career in public service and science education. He was a pilot in the U.S. Navy and the Utah Air National Guard, retiring as a Brigadier General. In Congress, he was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, and member of Energy and Natural Resources, Public Lands, National Parks and Forests, and Research and Development committees. He was invited by NASA to be an astronaut aboard space shuttle Discovery, flight 51-D, in 1985. On that seven-day mission, he orbited the earth 109 times, and performed various medical tests as a payload specialist. He is a recipient of the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy. He now is a Board Member of numerous companies and organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, United States Space Foundation, and the National Air and Space Museum.

Lyman Hafen
Executive Director, Zion Natural History Association. Lyman has been a writer and magazine editor for 20 years. Born and raised in St. George, Utah, he has written extensively of the region’s history, culture and personality. He was founding editor of St. George Magazine and has published more than 300 articles in publications such as Arizona Highways, Nevada Magazine and Northern Lights. He is the author of seven books, including Over the Joshua Slope (Macmillan, 1994), Roping the Wind (Utah State University Press, 1995), The Insiders’ Guide to Southwestern Utah (Insiders’ Inc., 1997), and Mukuntuweap: Landscape and Story in Zion Canyon (Tonaquint Press, 1996). The Zion Natural History Association and Zion National Park are currently planning an education and research program for regular Park visitors and visiting scientists. The Science Center has been invited to be a partner in these science camp and research programs.

Donald Henderson
Don has a Master of Science Degree in Meteorology from the University of Utah. He has had an extensive career as a weather forecaster and research meteorologist in private industry. He also was a research meteorologist for NOAA, EPA, and the National Park Service. He has published numerous publications in scientific journals on infrared radiative transfer processes in the atmosphere, mathematical modeling of long-range transport and diffusion of air pollution, and the effects of man-made light pollution on the night sky. Don has many years of teaching experience as a Lecturer in the Aviation Departments of two colleges. He currently is a Lecturer for the Institute For Continued Learning at Dixie State College.

Brett D. Moulding
Science Education Specialist and Curriculum Coordinator, Utah State Office of Education.

Don Reid
Director of Secondary Education, Applied Technology Director, and Director of Facilities for the Iron County School District. Don has a Bachelor Degree from Southern Utah University, a Masters from Utah State University, and has nearly completed a Doctorate from the University of Nevada. He has taught science and mathematics courses at the university and high school levels for over 20 years. He has served as Faculty Senate President at SUU. Don has also taken his students to the International Science Fair while teaching at high schools in Cedar City. He has taught Biology, Physical Science, Physics, Earth Science, and mathematics.

Max Rose
Doctor Rose is currently the Vice President of Academics at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah. He received his Doctorate degree from Brigham Young University in math and chemistry, after attending Southern Utah University, and Utah State University. He also attended Southern Illinois University and Harvard University for specialized post-graduate studies. He is also Chairman of the Dixie Regional Medical Center Governing Board, a Board member of the Bryce Canyon Natural Historical Society, and a member of the Southern Utah Celebrity Concert Board of Directors. Despite the extent of all these responsibilities, he currently is teaching math and chemistry courses at the College, because of his devotion to teaching, and his desire to help students extend their knowledge of these subjects.

Joe Sharp
Doctor Sharp has taught human physiology, embryology, physics, and astronomy at Southern Utah University. He received his Bachelor and Masters degrees, as well as a Doctorate from the University of Utah. His Ph.D. is in neuroanatomy and physiological psychology, with a minor in finite mathematics. He had a fifteen year career at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research analyzing problems dealing with the nervous system. He was Director of Neuropsychiatry before joining NASA. At Ames Research Center, he was Deputy Director of Life Sciences, and later Director of Space Research. Dr. Sharp has published nearly 100 scientific papers, and has edited two books. He continues to teach at SUU due to his definitive concern for the quality and quantity of highly trained scientists and engineers in the United States.

Harold Shirley
Mr. Shirley has a distinguished career in both education and community service. He has been mayor of Cedar City, Utah since 1990. A few of his many accomplishments in Cedar City and Iron County include: Recreation Director; Planning Commission; City Councilman; Scouting Coordinator; Chairman of Economic Development; Originator and Coordinator of Scouts in Government; Chamber of Commerce Director; Zions Bank Regional Board of Directors; and Utah State Board of Water Resources. As an educator, he has been President of Iron County Education Association, and served in numerous other educational positions. He developed and has taught Classical Humanities at Cedar High School for 28 years. His Bachelors and Masters Degrees are in History and English from Brigham Young University.

Nathan M. Smith, Jr.
Director of the Adele & Dale Young Education Technology Center, and Director of Technology for the College of Education at Utah State University. Mr. Smith graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education. His first teaching assignment was 4th through 6th grades in the Washington County School District. He also served as a school and district level art specialist, and later as a computer specialist. He was chairman of the school’s Shared Governance Committee for several years. He received his Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology at Utah State, and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate of the Year in that program.

Suzanne Winters
State Science Advisor, Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, State of Utah. Dr. Winters advises the Governor and the legislature on matters relating to science and technology, and their applications to government, industry, and public issues. She serves as liaison between the Governor and state research institutions on matters relating to research and development. She currently is chair of the Chemical Demilitarization Citizens Advisory Commission at the Toole Army Depot, and chair of the Technical Review Committee for Biological Testing Program at Dugway Proving Ground. She has a Bachelor degree in Chemistry, and a Doctorate in Pharmaceutics from the University of Utah. She previously did research and development on biomedical devices such as the Jarvik 7 total artificial heart and the CardioPulmonics’ IVOX, the “artificial lung”. She maintains an adjunct faculty position at the University of Utah.

Jack Wittry
Brigadier General, U.S. Air Force, retired. Jack has degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Astronautical Engineering from St. Louis University, Air Force Institute of Technology, and the University of Michigan. He has engineering experience on turbine-powered light aircraft and nuclear-powered aircraft. He was Director of Surveillance Systems in Vietnam. He achieved the honor of Permanent Professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and was also Head of the Department of Astronautics and Computer Science, Vice Dean and Acting Dean, and Member of the Academy Board. He also was the Academic Dean of the California Maritime Academy, and President and CEO of the Oakmont Golf Club. Now retired, he pursues various hobbies, including geology, archeology, anthropology, and astronomy.

John Farrington
Scientist Emeritus at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. His scholarly interests include marine organic geochemistry, biogeochemistry of organic pollutants, biochemistry of marine organisms, environmental quality issues, and science education. He has served as Associate Director for Education and Dean of WHOI, and as Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean. Special interests are formal and informal education K-graduate and continuing adult education with emphasis on the role of oceans and geosciences. Dr. Farrington has contributed exhibit and program designs for the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of Science, Boston. He is currently director of a science education program at Ohio State University which addresses our country's global competitiveness in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

John P. Pratt
Dr. Pratt has been an astronomy professor at Utah Valley State College, Head Research Scientist for Ashton Research Corporation, and Senior Aerospace Engineer at the Eyring Research Institute. He has had extensive computer software design & development experience at WordPerfect and Novell, and several other organizations. He specializes in ancient astronomical calendars and historical chronology. He has created a national on-line Astronomy Exercises educational program for students and the general public. Dr. Pratt has B.A. degrees in Physics and Math, University of Utah, and a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Arizona.
